Measures have been ordered for preventing avian influenza in birds

A meeting of the Regional epizootic commission was held in Burgas Regional administration related to registered foci of the disease avian influenza in birds in the area of several regions in Bulgaria. Currently Burgas region is not one of them.

The measures ordered by the commission for preventing the penetration of the disease in the area of Burgas region are: prohibition for exhibiting, marketing and other gatherings of domestic or other birds and pigs. By Governor’s order are prohibited also access of non-authorized persons and fishing in water basins and places, which are habitat of wild migrating birds – Pomoriysko Lake, Atanasovsko Lake, Burgas Lake, Mandra-Poda Complex and Straldja Complex in Burgas region. In case of identifying of primary disease focus, hunting of migrating and water-floating game will immediately be prohibited in the area of Burgas region.

Meetings of municipal epizootic commissions are forthcoming in order to undertake locally particular measures. Stronger supervision has been ordered for wild birds on the part of the ornithologist societies, national hunting societies, state forestries and Regional Forest Directorate. Common inspections will be conducted by representatives of ornithologist societies, hunting and fishing societies and state forestries, which belong to the South-East State Enterprise, municipal forest structures and private forest cooperations for ill or dead wild migrating or sinantrope birds.

A permanent veterinary-medical control for observation of biosafety measures in poultry-farms is starting.
