Burgas region is among the priority regions of the new scholarship program for high-school pupils of Roma descent

Burgas region is one of the priority regions envisaged in the Roma Education Fund Program for providing for future students at institution of higher education of roma descent with university scholarships. This has been made clear today at the regular meeting of the Regional Council for cooperation in ethnic and integratiional problems at Burgas Regional Administration chaired by Deputy Governor Assoc. Prof. Sevdalina Turmanova. Participants were regular Council’s members and NGOs as well as graduates from high-schools of Roma descent who have an ambition to apply for admission in universities.

The National coordinator for Bulgaria of the Roma Education Fund Orlin Orlinov presented in detail the stages of application and the admission terms for the candidates as well as recommendations of the scholarship program. The accent of the presentation fell also on the future initiatives of the Fund, which are supporting the education of pupils of Roma descent. The Roma Education Fund provides 250 students of Roma descent with  scholarships yearly during the whole study period. The monthly scholarship is 80 Euro if the results are positive and the university process is not interrupted.

The choice to organize the information campaign in Burgas Regional Administration was made because of the low popular in the region students’ scholarship program, providing students of Roma descent with academic scholarships. There are young people solely in the municipalities of Sredets, Kameno and Tsarevo, who receive academic scholarships in the framework of the program.

Other priority regions of the program are also Haskovo and Yambol regions.
