Inspection of all school busses, police control, renovation of road marks, checkup of fences and electricity equipments are part of the measures taken by the institutions for ensuring the road safety of pupils in the new school year. This was made clear at a meeting of the Regional Road Safety Commission, chaired by Deputy Governor Vladimir Krumov.
The Head of Road Police Department Ivan Ishkiev made a brief report on the road safety in the region. According to the statistical data quoted by him 298 severe road accidents happened in 2014 in which 35 people died. A decrease has been reported in number of victims and injured in car crashes until August 2015 but the percentage of road accidents remains yet high. The police is considering new measures for reducing negative trends. In the same time the building of artificial joltinesses and installment of video monitoring at places with higher concentration of road accidents continues.
The commission reported irregular parking of parents near schools and a high concentration of vehicles in the beginning and at the end of the day as a main problem of safety for the youngest pupils. It reduces the visibility when crossing the street, makes difficulties for the traffic and creates precondition for accidents. In this regard Deputy Governor Krumov suggested to have a conversation with school principals who should appeal to parents to park in a way wich does not hinder normal traffic and crossing streets in the school’s area.
In the meeting took part Road Police Department, Regional Road Office, Education Inspectorate, Emergency Call Center 112, Fire Department, Automobile Administration, Burgas Municipality and Regional Police Directorate.
