The reversed sieve of the St. Lazar’s Day dancers predicted a healthy, successful and good year for the Burgas Regional Administration. As a tradition the sieve is being rolled down and the way it falls predicts if the year will be good or not good. The folklore ensemble “Scarlet Peony” from Sredets and a group of the cultural club in Debelt reproduced this beautiful and colorific Bulgarian custom on the eve of the forthcoming Christian feasts. Governor Valcho Cholakov being the token host of the festivity traditionally presented the dancers with fruits, candies and gifts. This Christian feast is named after St. Lazar and is celebrated on the 8th day before Easter. People do believe that in the house where St. Lazar’s dancers on this day have sung there will be rich harvest and the owners will be healthy throughout the year.
