Burgas commemorates the 137th anniversary of the Liberation

Governor Valcho Cholakov, Deputy Governors Sevdalina Turmanova and Vladimir Krumov and scores of thankful people in Burgas participated in the celebration of the 137th anniversary of the Liberation of Burgas from Ottoman rule. On 6th February 1878 the delighted people of Burgas welcomed the detachment of Colonel A. M. Lermontov which brought the long expected freedom. The celebrations today started with a ritual hoisting of the national flag, the flags of the EU and Burgas Municipality. The Burgas clergy performed a public prayer for prosperity of free Burgas in Atanas Sirekov Square. Commodore Malen Chubenkov – Commander of Burgas Naval Forces inspected the parade order of the representative units of Burgas Garrison. The official celebration of the memorable date continued with a ritual laying wreaths and flowers and paying military honours to the Memorial of the Russian lrberators. Burgas people honoured the memory ofthose who have been perished by observing a minute of silence.
