Governor Valcho Cholakov directed to be exercised control with the aim to find out if the information released through the websites of Municipal Councils in the region is accessible to citizens. After review of the internet-pages of the local parliaments it has been stated that some of the Municipal Councils publish in their websites solely an invitation for their meetings and a draft-agenda.
Twelve of total 13 authorities of local self-government do not announce reports and draft-resolutions. The lack of publications is an obstacle for citizens to become acquainted in advance with the information in order to be active while relevant decisions are being taken related to development of the settlements where they live. Publicity of information in the mass is important so that citizens can in detail become acquainted with the activity of local law-makers, on one hand, and that a full transparency, accessibility and acquaintance of the society is ensured, on the other hand. The control exercited by the Burgas Regional Administration found out that full information is being released solely in the website of Burgas Municipal Council so as people of Burgas to have the possibility to become acquainted in advance with it.
“A step like this on the part of Municipal Councils would help people actively to participate in the work of the local parliament, it would make municipal councillors’ activity transparent and accessible and it would strengthen the confidence in institutions. To work for the people and to be useful is the main task of the administrations.” – Governor Cholakov commented.
